Bait-and-switch con artist scammers. Went on their site as I needed to rent a car for multiple days. Doing a search, it showed there were cars available for $83/day on the dates I needed it. I sign up for a one-year membership and suddenly the cheapest day rates for cars is $133/day. Absolutely disgusting practice. I called to complain and cancel the account. They explained "oh that's because there's higher demand on certain days." What bullsh*t! This is a clear bait-and-switch tactic. They then explained, we can refund your membership but we can't refund the $25 application fee as they "sent it to the government". When I asked for a receipt for exactly where that money was sent, they replied "Oh I don't think we have access to that." Avoid this garbage company. Go with Getaround or just rent a damn car.
I can't become a zipcar driver, because the website is down. I have tried multiple times over the last 2 weeks and upon form submission the webpage and mobile app both give a 502 error when trying to sign up as a driver.

Declined my application with no explanation. I have a full licence, never had any points on it, never claimed anything from my car insurance in 20 yrs driving. Asked for explanation and my email was ignored.
Zipcar deserves a —————-0 stars. They wrongfully charged me in March 2021 for parking tickets that their car accumulated for seven days because it stopped working for seven days and they left it there. This happened in September 2020 and months later in 2021 they start going crazy charging my car. It took a very long time maybe more than a month for them to email me that they were sorry and they were refunding me and STILL I had to go to my bank to have them dispute and refund me. Now since March I told zipcar I no longer want to be a member and to close my account especially because I couldn’t get in anyway because they wouldn’t allow me they are still charging me membership fees and telling me I can’t close my account. My balance was already paid off in March when this was going on and they’re still threatening me with collections. And to trust pilot I have the receipts and emails to prove what they’re doing to me.
I recently took a trip to an Oregon recreational area. I rented A Zipcar in Portland and drove the 25 miles to my destination. Upon getting there I realized after I shut the car off that I may not be able to start it again. The security device to unlock and start the car had to have internet. Where I was at there was no service. I figured I could start it with my Zipcard but that did not work. Knowing that I may be stuck I found someone whose phone could make a call. I called Zipcar and they had me try a few things that didn't work. This was after I told them I already attempted these. I stayed on the phone for another 20 minutes after the Zipcar agent transferred me to the "correct" department that would assist me. After a while the Zipcar woman said I would be receiving a call in 30 minutes. When I didn't get a call I dialed the number to find out what they going to do. The woman told me that because the car couldn't be started without a connection they were going to need to arrange a tow that would take me the the town nearby so I could start the vehicle. Again they told me we'll call you and tell you when Someone is on their way. I waited again and didn't hear anything. I then called back to inform them that the recreation area I was at would be closing in less than an hour. They were going to lock the gates at that time. Zipcar said they would tell them about this. After about three hours total someone called me and asked me when the recreational area opened the following day. I told them the hours and they said they would not be able to get a truck to the location before the place was locked for the night. I then inquired about how I would be going without a car because I was miles from the nearest city. Zipcar informed me that they would not be able to arrange a ride for me to get home. I asked them what they thought I should do and they told me they would reimburse me if I could somehow find the means to hire someone to drive me out of there. Otherwise I was basically told it wasn't their responsibility. I was in the middle of nowhere and there were no Uber or cabs. I didn't think it was possible a business would have no problem with someone being stuck in the middle of nowhere. I called a few times the following two days to get answers but was given inconsistent responses by different customer service representatives. I was told that the issue with their vehicle wasn't my fault and not to worry. Then the next day Zipcar charged me for a tow and for not returning it on time. Even though they had they taken my money they claim it is still under review. I was told I would receive an email with their determination but would not be permitted to discuss it with them. I have continuously been put on extended holds, heard them evade all of my concerns and not make any effort to resolve it. I have blocked my account to prevent any further charges from them.
I wouldn't advise using this or any service like this without reading reviews and finding out the experiences of someone who has. If you read other Zipcar reviews you will find they have used similar questionable methods with other members
This service is very disgusting. The vehicles are not kept up or cleaned. The customer service is terrible and inconveniencing. Only use for short runs nothing long, and bring your own sanitizers. Refrain from canceling as their refund policy is horrible, and also inconveniencing. When you point him out to the customer service agent they do not seem to care. They should invest in customer experience training.
I used Zipcar for a whole year and recently had a very small incident in a parking garage. Even though I had purchased an insurance with them, which I've been paying monthly, Zipcar decided to permanently suspend my account for good without any appeal process. After searching online, I found out that Zipcar will kick out anyone with an incident/accident. I don't understand why they don't make this clear from the get go; why they suspend you right after one (even tiny) incident; and why they make you pay for insurance in the first place. Zipcar also failed to reimburse my membership fees, which I wasn't able to use since they had suspended my account. I sent them an email a couple weeks ago and never received a response. I would definitely not recommend Zipcar due to their questionable ethics.
Be very very careful when using a Zipcar. We are ending our membership with this company, for their lack of care or concern over their customers and vehicles. On every occasion we have rented a car, we have to clean them due to left over food, ashes, and even personal belongings like clothes. On two separate occasions, we have found knives and our most recent experience, we found multiple razor blades in the car. Thanks fully I did not cut myself, as they were in the handles of the door. I requested a full refund for our weekend trip, Bc we had to cut the trip short as we felt very unsafe in the vehicle and had to cancel our plans. Thankfully, we did not get pulled over as this could have been a dangerous scenario for my family. They have only given us a partial refund after I was told by the CS rep a full refund would be provided. And this has been after a month long battle to get back anything, at that rate a response. Please check your vehicles, customers, because Zipcar is not. This mishap could really get someone hurt. It truly shows how much they care about their customers, as they do not even respond to all these negative reviews. Absolutely shameful! I guess you all are going to wait until something terrible happens to really check and clean your vehicles!!!! AVOID AT ALL COST!

All the cars I've booked have been clean and easy to drive, with the exception of one I couldn't access through the app or with my card. Zipcar customer service replied to me quickly and refunded me for the full price without any hassle. The student yearly membership is only $15, which is convenient if you're in college and don't have your own car.
Zipcar is a scam service. They will not reimburse you for fuel you pay for. Rather they will suspend the account without recourse. This is not a "community" as they claim. It is a scam service and consider alternatives.
I received a penalty charge notice. I requested transfer of liability so I could could challenge it. Once liability had been transferred, Zipcar paid the PCN anyway and took the money out of my account. They are denying the liability was transferred even though I sent them a copy of the letter confirming the transfer from the council. Every time I have contacted the department that deals with PCNs (which you can only do via email) I get the same copy and paste response saying the council refused to transfer liability. I have called Zipcar and requested to speak to someone twice but no one has called me back. I have been a customer for nearly 10 years (shortly after they launched in London) and have spent thousands of pounds with Zipcar over the years. I am disgusted with they way they treat their customers
I used to love using zipcar. This year, I tried them again for the first time in years and it was an awful, overly expensive experience. I was under the impression I closed my account in July, and now 5 months later, they charge me for 5 months of membership fees because "their system was down." Had I seen a monthly charge in August I would have asked for a refund and closed my account immediately. Now they want to charge me for 5 months worth of fees. I called them for a refund, my support ticket was "escalated," but they still say they won't refund any of it. I'm pretty sure this counts as fraud. Filing a complaint with BBB next.
